The Programme Director and Deputy Chief of North East Region Initiative (NERI), Mr. John Onyeukwu has stated that Boko Haram violence issue is not pertaining to Northeast alone but a global problem.

Onyeukwu told CS Newspaper at the sideline of the 2018 Social Media Week Lagos on Thursday that people should not isolate the Boko Haram violence as a Northeast problem.

He said the organisation came to the Social Media week to re-orientate the people of the country that the Northeast is not totally in Crisis.

“Terrorism and extremism violence is not a North-east problem but a problem that has caught the attention of the World.

“Working in the North-east has been a good thing for us, we have never heard any problem with the people and the communities have accepted us as a laudable organization.”

He said his organisation is at the Social Media Week to change the perception of people about the Northeast using the social media as a driving force.

‘We came to the social media week, primarily, because for most people, they believed the Northeast is a no-go-area because of Boko Haram. So, we are here to change some of the narrations.

“The whole world has invested and interested in the Boko Haram issues and we need to start addressing our issues ourselves.

On the Dapchi girls, Onyeukwu said NERI will continue collaborate, help and pray along with the community on the safe return of the school girls.
