The Lagos State Civil Society Partnership (LACSOP) is a forum of major civil society networks and coalitions working with the Lagos State Government – the executive as well as the legislature, for the effective implementation of critical development issues and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The general public is humbly requested to join LACSOP’s live tweet conversation on South West Civil Society Consultative Forum on Priority Issues for the National Conference event which will be held 11th of March 2014, at Planet One Hotel, 3/5 Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Maryland, Ikeja at 9.00am. You can join the conversation at: http://twubs.com/SWCSNationalConfab and follow us on Twitter @LACSOP and @CSnewsroom.
As announced by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr. Ayim Pius Ayim on the 30th of January 2014, nominations for the 492 delegates, including representatives of professional groups, women groups, youth groups, ethnic nationalities, labour groups and Civil Society organisations to the National Conference took place between the 30th of January 2014 – 20th of February 2014.
President Goodluck Jonathan has subsequently announced that the National Conference will be inaugurated on the 10th of March 2014.
LACSOP as a non-partisan forum of Civil Society Networks is facilitating the harmonization of a common position on priority issues by citizens in Lagos State and the South West to be presented to the National Conference. LACSOP will also support a secretariat and online portal for continuous harmonization and feedback from the public on issues as they are raised during the National Conference itself.
This approach had been done with great success during the ongoing 1999 Constitutional Amendments when LACSOP facilitated the harmonization of Civil Society Position and submitted same to the Senate Ad hoc Committee both in Abuja and Lagos. A number of the recommendations therein have so far been adopted by one or both chambers of the National Assembly.
The Consultative Forum is supported by the State Accountability & Voice Initiative (SAVI-DFID).
We therefore look forward to your esteemed participation during the live tweets of the event. You can contact the undersigned on 08037191348 for any further information.
