According to the letter obtained by CSBS-News which was sent to Non-Party stakeholders dated 12, Feb, 2016 with Ref;esbLOG16-77 and signed by Christiana Figueres, outgoing Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), made it clear that she will not extend her term in the office after it expires on July 6, 2016.
However, she commended the positive spirit of her colleagues in fighting the course of climate change over the years and also vowed to keep injecting ‘energy, passion and perseverance’ into fighting the climate change crusade.
Figueres succeeded Yvo de Boer in 2010 and had been a member of the Costa Rican negotiating team since 1995, involved in both UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol negotiations.
She has contributed to the design of key climate change models and is a prime promoter of Latin America’s active participation in the Convention, a frequent public speaker, and a widely published author.
