In a bid to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and finding practical and workable solutions to global issues, the organization, Centre for Global Solutions and Sustainable Development has launched a Solution initiative program called: Ending Poverty in Communities (EPIC).
EPIC is a Solution based initiative established by CENGSSUD to reduce poverty in rural communities across Nigeria.
According to the Director of Program, Famous Imemesi, the organization is committed through this initiative, to assist one hundred thousand (100,000) people get out of poverty especially women, children, youths and poor families living in rural communities across Nigeria.
“We believe that poverty is highly endemic, a threat to human existence and it is more rooted in rural communities.”
He said the program will be held at Ijede/Oke-Eletu Community in Ikorodu, where 1000 poor people will be targeted and lifted out of poverty in a sustainable way.
Imemesi further said that program will be divided into three focal areas that include agricultural empowerment in catfish farming, snail farming, and poultry farming.
The second segment of the program will include small/medium scale entrepreneurship empowerment training for youths, women and girls poverty to acquire skills and knowledge they need to secure a livelihood, and support their families that involves training in traditional bead making, makeup and gele, event decoration training, nail fixing and eye lashes, pedicure and manicure, pastry and catering
Imemesi mentioned that the educational empowerment will cater for donation of writing materials to school pupils (books, biros, pencils etc), donation of school bags and uniforms to pupils and payment of scholarships for pupils, payment of school fees, WAEC/GCE, JAMB exams, payment for after-school coaching classes.
