EiE Nigeria, Paradigm Initiative Nigeria and BudgIT have put together a two-day new media conference to enlighten members of the public on the importance of governance, using new and effective media methods.
The conference, tagged ‘New Media, Citizens & Governance Conference’ will hold from Wednesday, October 26 to Thursday, October 27 in Abuja.
Previously, EiE first co-hosted a New Media and Governance Conference in 2012 to bring together policy makers, civil society, academic institutions, private sector, and youths to explore the use of new media for improved governance, accountability and civic engagement.
This year’s conference will build on this with a particular focus on ‘citizen’ as the bridge between the new media tools and governance outcomes. The experts in the areas mentioned above will also be expected at the two-day conference.
The conference will open on Wednesday with a welcome address by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, an avid Twitter user, and the Governor of Kaduna State; and a keynote address by Mrs Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education and a fierce advocate of the ‘Office of the Citizen’.
Panel sessions include Advocacy and New Media; New Media and National Orientation; Social Media Conduct 101: Thou Shalt Not Gaffe to mention just a few.
Foremost sponsors Facebook and Google will also be active participants in the conference.
