Governments at all levels have been urged to put in place an enabling environment to ensure corporate organisations, philanthropists and others invest in and sponsor sporting activities in the country.
Chairman Lagos State Basketball Association, Babs Ogunde, Coach of Mark Mentor Basketball Club, Peter Ahmadu, and a Sports Analyst, Yemi Fagbolagun, stated this on an Eko FMProgramme in Ikeja.
The trio said that was the vogue in many countries of the World, saying government alone could not sponsor sporting events.
According to them, government should have definite and well mapped out programmes for Basketball , with a view to developing the game to match international standard.
They also advised Government to invite Basketball coaches from America to coach Nigerian Basketball players, saying it was cheaper and better.
The trio urged governments to appreciate and honour the country’s Senior Basketball team ,D’Tiger which won the African Basketball championship in Tunisia.
