A former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, has tasked Nigerians to pray fervently for the leadership of the country as it is only prayer that can save and rescue the nation from its challenges.
The estwhile Nigerian leader made the call when he visited Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, at the State House in Ikeja, saying that his group, Nigeria Prays, which was founded in October 1996, was in the state to hold a joint prayer for the country.
Gowon further said the inter-religious prayer group had always prayed for the good of the nation, stressing that God had wrought miracles in the country due to prayer. He added that it was because of prayer that the 2015 presidential election went on peacefully.
The “Nigeria Prays” coordinator said it is only prayers offered in sincerity of heart to the Lord that would be answered, hence calling on Nigerians to be sincere with God.
Responding, the Lagos State Governor thanked Gowon for the visit and emphasized that the last election could not have taken place if the hand of God was not there, adding that it was obviously a manifestation of the greater blessings of the collective will of Nigerians to come together to lift up the country spiritually.
Ambode said he was glad that Lagos was hosting the prayer rally, and that the state government will be committed to making it successful.
