Kimberley Anyadike is a record breaker for being the Nigerian teen and pretty much the youngest black teen to fly across the United States.

In July, a 16-year old African American, Isaiah Cooper, was the youngest black pilot to fly across the United States.

In 2015, Kimberly clinched the title with a lot of significance. First she is a Nigerian, female, and was 15-years old at the time.

Anyadike is believed to be the youngest female pilot to ever complete the journey, which report says took 13 days to finish. She says that her models were the legendary Tuskeegee Airmen.

The Tuskeegee Airmen is a group of African-American military pilots (fighter and bomber) who fought in World War II. Just like these black warriors, Kim took on the challenge to fly across the United States at the age of 15.

“They left such a great legacy. I had big shoes to fill. … All they wanted to do was to be patriots for this country. They were told no, that they were stupid, that they didn’t have cognitive development to fly planes. They didn’t listen. They just did what they wanted to do.”

The young lady flew in the company of a certified commercial and safety pilot Ronnell Norman and Major Levi H. Thornhill, 87.

It was all the more interesting that Thornhill who was a former Air Force pilot and was also a member of the Tuskegee Airmen during the second World War.

Perhaps aviation greatness runs in the Anyadike bloodline. Kimberley’s sister, Kelly Anyadike, at 17 years broke the record for being the youngest African-American girl to fly 4 vehicles in just one day.

At the age of 12 Kim herself had learnt to fly. Her training was courtesy of Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum, Compton, California.

Kimberley Anyadike’s record-breaking journey covered a flight of over 7,000 miles, using a Cessna C-172 aircraft.

She said:

“I wanted to inspire other kids to really believe in themselves.”

It is still in place to say that this tenacious teen pilot has successfully inspired both the young and the old.
