The Lagos State Government, through Citizens Mediation Centre (CMC), is set to partner with the United Nations on its International Day of Peace through a “Walk for Peace and Legal Clinic.

The Director of the Centre, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Odusanya, who disclosed this during a courtesy visit by a team, led by the Director, Mr Ronald Kyanga from the United Nations Information Centre, said the CMC is proposing to hold the Walk and Clinic on Monday, September 21, 2015 to sensitise the public on the need for peaceful co-existence among each other.

She emphasised that there is a need to consolidate the immense contribution that has been achieved by the Centre, through free mediation service, with the enhancement of the socio economic development of every resident of the State.

The Director noted that the operation of the Centre has become a model for other states to emulate as its intervention in many issues has led to the reduction in the number of cases in the courts.

Earlier in his remark, the Director United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Mr. Ronald Kyanga said that peace is a necessary catalyst for development in any country and commended the Centre on its achievements through mediation.

While noting that the art of mediation was fast becoming a global phenomenon, Kayanga expressed UNIC’s enthusiasm to collaborate with the Centre in commemorating this year’s World Peace Day with a “Walk and Legal Clinic”.

The Governor of Lagos Sate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode is expected to flag of the events for this year’s UN International Day of Peace on September 21, 2015.
