Nobert Zongo Press Centre Calls for Applications for Investigative Journalism Prize

The Norbert Zongo National Press Centre in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso,  is calling for application from qualified journalist across Africa for the Nobert Zongo Prize for Investigative Journalism.

The award of excellence was established by the Norbert Zongo National Press Centre in memory of the famous journalist and editor of the weekly newspaper ‘The Independent’, who was murdered on December 13, 1998 in Burkina Faso.

The award aims to promote the practice of investigative journalism, research, investigation, on political, economic, social and cultural relevant topics.

The award consists of: reinforcing the importance of the role of the journalist; recognizing the talents of journalists; promoting a journalistic culture of checking information on relevant political, economic, social and cultural issues; and rewarding courage, determination and the respect of deontological principles of journalism.

The award is open to all journalists in Africa above 18 years of age. Interested applicants must be regularly employed in a news agency or regularly collaborating with African media. The journalist should be a professional and must have published work in African press between May 3 of 2011 and May 3 of 2013.

The submission of materials is in three categories namely: newspaper, radio and television.

Applicants interested in newspaper submission should send the original and a photocopy of the published article. Applicants interested in the television category should send in two copies in VHS or DVD of broadcast material while two audio cassettes or two CDs of the broadcast material for radio should be sent in for the radio category.

Only works done in French and English will be accepted.

The deadline for submission is November 15, 2013.

The winning prize for each category is One Million CFA (approx US$2000).
