Student leaders in Ondo State have marked this year’s International students day with a mentorship Session for secondary school students across the state‎.
The 17th of November is a day generally adopted by the students populace across the globe as the “students’ day” and the theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Students’ Social Responsibility’.

The student leaders who divided themselves into five groups addressed their younger ones on areas as leadership, citizenship participation in governance as well as responsible followership‎.

They also took time to explain the investment of the mimiko-led government ‎in education including construction of mega schools, free shuttle, and low tuition for tertiary institutions in the state.

After the teaching session, the student leaders converged at the mega Primary School at Iro for a ‘feedback and experience sharing session.’

The governor in a message to the event delivered by the Vice-president, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Aiyenuro Timileyin said his government will continue to make the right investment in the sector.

‎‎He called on the students to constructively engage his
administration to ensure the state remains an enviable one.

“We are doing everything possible in our capacity to see that every single child of this state enjoys the benefit of education from the government.
“Our government is open to criticism and recommendations from students like you in order to improve on our current status. The state currently is one of the best in terms of education and we need your support to continue to be.”
Mr. Sola oladeji, the director of youths represented the state’s Commissioner for Youth while presenting the certificate of participation lauded the student leaders for their initiative.
He enjoined them to continue in such act and support the state government always.

Some of the student leaders who bare their minds during the interactive session including the president of FUTA Students Union Government (SUG), Fowobaje oluwaseun and his counterpart from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA), Ogunade kayode applauded Governor Mimiko for his achievements in education sector and encouraged him to do more.

“The governor is doing up to expectation based on the available funds but we still want him to do more. We have said so many things here today that we want him to take note of, God bless Ondo State.” Kayode noted.
For Oluwaseun however, he wants the state government to push more funds into the state scholarship board.

‎The schoolchildren and their teachers also thanked the student leaders for the initiative to impact knowledge instead of the usual funfare of marking the day in years past.
