Power Lee Retains PWA African Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Title

- Advertisment -

It is no more news that Mr. Peace “Power Lee De Great” successfully defended his PWA African heavyweight title at the Asaba Township Stadium, Asaba in Delta State against the Angolan Marvelous Buffalo who was ready to cart away the heavyweight Pro Wrestling title belt currently in possession of Power Lee De Great.

The evening was great as the event did not start until after 5pm, with showcasing the kid boxers from age 6 as opener to the great event. Nigerian and other African wrestlers were all introduced one by one as they filed out and the Nigerian and Angolan National Anthems followed after dignitaries present were introduced.

Royal fathers at the occasion were the Ovie of Ellu Kingdom, HRM Murphy Urugbezi, Ogwara 1; the Ovie of Ozoro Kingdom, HRM Barr. Ogbogbo, Ibuka 1; High Chief Iduh Amadhe, Isoko Development Union (IDU) President General, The Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, Victor Onogagamue who represented the Commission, Chief Job Owhefere who represented the The Odiologbo of Owhe kingdom, His Royal Highness Okpuzo Romanus Ejirememe Inana 1,(JP) and others well meaning Deltans who witnessed the great and timely wrestling event which is the first of its kind in the history of Delta State founded some 25 years ago.

The wrestling show started with a musical show of the Delta Arts Council Asaba, followed by the Abame wrestling dance of Igbide which was so interesting and lastly the Isoko Choral Group all the way from Isoko land as the musical shows added values, glamour and effects to the timely wrestling defense.

The first wrestling context was between Zion Lion and Flying Dan Ko which was really an eye opener to the Return of Glory Wrestling Championship which ended in a time limit draw while in the second bout; Young Power Mike defeated Eagle de Great Nail who was more muscular than Mike.

The third bout of Ultimate Power based in Ghana and of Young Stamina ended in a disqualification as both wrestlers were outside the wrestling canvas till the referee counted ten and they refuse to get in.  The fourth bout saw Mighty Man defeating USA Bing of Congo Kinshasha while Mr. Sharpman who was equally matched to the pro wrestling tactics and gimmicks of Wolf NDA 98 lost to wolf after a twenty minutes fiercy bout which made fans to be on their toes.

The last bout was the final for the night as Michel Noudem, the opponent Power Lee defeated last year in Yaoundé, Cameroon who was full of hope that the event will not hold so as to cart away the title could not realize his aim and as soon as Marvelous Buffalo was called, Michel followed him and through open challenge to Power Lee that he is challenging him again come July 16 at Yaoundé, Cameroon.  Power Lee grabbed the microphone from him that he has dealt with him before in Yaounde, Cameroon and he sees no reason for coming to Nigeria again.

The climax of the title defense fight between Mr. Peace and Buffalo was great as both wrestlers were equal to the task. Power Lee held Buffalo to a test of strength before Buffalo was able to set himself free before showing the hard stuff he is made of to Power Lee and for close to fifteen minutes, he was in total control of the fight before Power Lee was able to maneuver and took the lead again. Within a twinkle of an eye, the story changed, he slammed Buffalo twice before going for the pinning and it was over as Power Lee successfully defended his much awaited and much postponed PWA African Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Title.

A victory part was organized for Power Lee’s success by the Isoko Development Union (IDU)  where the President General of the organization expressed his pleasure and disclosed that the IDU will confer on Power Lee the highest award of the group which the the Isoko Merit Award as Power Lee has done them proud.

The plans of Power Lee now is to present the belt to Senator (Dr.) Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa who pronounced Power Lee a worthy ambassador when he won the African pro heavyweight pro wrestling title last year in far away Yaounde, Cameroon.
