Presidential System of Govt. expensive to practice in Nigeria – Amitilu Shittu

Human Right activist, Amitilu Shittu has decried the jumbo payoff political office holders, saying that was why some Nigerians made politics a do or die affair.

Speaking as an online guest on an Eko Fm programme in Ikeja, Shittu said that was also the main reason why the Presidential System of Government was expensive to practice in Nigeria.

According to him, political office holders, particularly members of the National Assembly, had not less than five special advisers, house helps, cooks and drivers which they had to pay, while some might not have any, but only collected the allowances for themselves.

Shittu said they were not ready to make any sacrifice for the country, as they were only interested in their bloated salaries.

He explained that if truly the members of the National Assembly loved Nigerians, they must be ready to forfeit some of these allowances in the interest of the masses.

On the way forward, Shittu urged the Government to continue its anti – corruption crusade to ensure that those who looted the nations wealth were brought to justice.
