A stealing passenger was caught on Lagos-Abuja Aero bound flight on Sunday.
He was eventually identified as Mr. Dennis Mathew Ovuironye, 31, of 1.65 in height as noted in his temporary driver’s licence. He claimed to be a student of Business Administration at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).
The airline was on a 6.45am flight on Sunday when Dennis was caught stealing a sum of €500 Euros and N150, 000 from a baggage that belonged to an Austrian passenger named, Novotny Anton.
Dennis, who sat on Seat No. 23C was spotted by an airline’s cabin crew as he removed the Austrian passenger’s bag from the cockpit as if he was changing his seat.
Dennis, the Deltan-born suspect was also caught with a wrap of marijuana. He had reportedly removed his co-passenger’s bag from the cockpit above the Austrian and took it to his own seat, creating the impression that he was changing his seat and stole the money.
But Dennis was unable to get away with his crime as a female cabin crew raised alarm and ordered him to remain seated before he could return the luggage to the cockpit to prevent the Austrian from suspect any foul.
However, shortly before landing, the Austrian raised the alarm that he couldn’t find his bag just as Dennis began to fidget in the seat where he had earlier been confined by the female crew member.
As the craft touched ground, the female crew member asked the Austrian to check the bag on Dennis’ laps and then, the Austrian confirmed it was his. Dennis later said he thought the bag was his.
But when Novotny opened the bag and discovered that his €500 Euros and N150, 000 were missing, other passengers descended on Dennis. They also found the missing money with a wrap of marijuana on him as his pockets were searched. He thereafter said he was forced to steal the money to cater for his ill mother while he was in Abuja to meet his businessman elder brother.
Dennis was eventually handed over to security operatives at the Abuja airport
