The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that three of its personnel who exchanged gunfire with some gunmen on Monday in Ikorodu Area were missing after the encounter.
Police Public Relations Officer, Patricia Amadin, said there was intensive manhunt for the gunmen.
Amadin, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, appealed to members of the public to volunteer useful information and report cases of persons with gunshot wounds to the nearest Police Station.
According to her, on Monday, seven policemen attached to Owutu Police Division were attacked by suspected armed men believed to be militants.
She said the suspected militants were travelling in a bus at the time of encounter with policemen.
Amadin, said on sighting the policemen, the suspected militants suddenly opened fire on them, while the policemen were quick to respond and successfully repelled the unprovoked attack.
The Police Image Maker said in the heat of the gunfire exchange, the overwhelmed gunmen retreated, having been inflicted with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
