In its effort at finding workable solutions to global issues, the Centre for Global Solutions and Sustainable Development (CENGSSUD) has launched an initiative called; Ending Poverty in Communities (EPIC).
The program is designed towards empowering the poor with basic skills to tackle poverty and hunger in line with the goals one and two of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals.
The first edition which is targeted at lifting over 1000 poor rural dwellers out of poverty will hold between the 28th and 30th of March, 2016 at Ijede Rural Community in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The intervention program of the centre is divided into three small and medium scale entrepreneurship empowerment training for women and girls, agricultural empowerment and educational empowerment.
Participants will be trained in arts such as bead making, baking, catfish farming, snail rearing as well as scholarship for pupils to mention but a few.
Emphasizing the need for a collective effort required to fight poverty and hunger, Adebowale Adeniyi the initiator and founder CENGSSUD, charged Nigerians to support the program to make it a success.
“Poverty is a bogus threat to humanity and it is more rooted in rural communities. We all need to come together in innovative ways to creatively form solutions that not only work for today, but set us on an adaptive path to addressing the solutions we will need tomorrow.
“With your donation/gifts, poor children, women and families can receive the resources they need to improve their health, get an education and increase economic opportunity for their families, communities and you contribute to sustainable solutions that benefit everyone.”
