UN Appoints 17 Youths as Change-Makers for SDGs

The United Nations on Tuesday in New York announced the appointment of 17 young leaders to advocate among their peers to ensure they reached set global development benchmarks by 2030.

 According to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the young innovators, aged between 19 and 30, many of whom are activists or founders and chief executives of their own companies will support youth engagement for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SDGs had an ambitious agenda with 17 goals to be met by all UN member states.
Ban said that the first class of young leaders, from 15 countries with various backgrounds including innovation in the food industry, fashion or micro-finance was selected from among 18,000 nominees.
The UN leader said that the 17 young change-makers were a testament to the ingenuity of the youth. He also congratulated them for their exceptional leadership and demonstrated commitment to the SDGs.
