@UNDP launches Equator Prize 2017, Call for Nominations

-

- Advertisment -

Given your work on natural resource management and sustainable development issues, we thought you might be well positioned to nominate eligible groups or get this message into the hands of interested organizations.

The Equator Prize 2017 will be awarded to outstanding community and indigenous initiatives that are advancing nature-based solutions for local sustainable development. The Equator Prize winners will join a prestigious network of 208 community-based organizations from 70 countries that have been awarded the Equator Prize since 2002. Each winning group will receive USD 10,000 and will be invited to participate in a series of policy dialogues and special events during the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2017, culminating in an award ceremony at the beginning of Climate Week.

We hope to appeal for your support in two key areas:

  1. Nominate communities that are innovating and advancing creative solutions related to natural resource management and sustainable development
  2. Circulate this announcement amongst your partners and contacts, encouraging them to submit nominations and share the call for nominations with their  networks

For further information, please visit www.equatorinitiative.org. You will find all the relevant information on eligibility requirements, selection criteria and how to nominate. Nominations can be submitted in eight different languages in our new online nomination system at http://prize.equatorinitiative.org.

Videos introducing the Equator Prize and past Equator Prize winners are available on our Youtube channel here.

In celebration of its 15th anniversary, the Equator Initiative will launch a web portal of local nature-based solutions to sustainable development. The platform will serve to connect communities around the world and share local solutions that work (irrespective of whether they win the Equator Prize). Participation in this platform is optional when submitting nominations for the Equator Prize.

Please note that the nomination period for this cycle of the Equator Prize is shorter than in previous rounds. The nomination deadline is 8 March 2017.
Many thanks in advance for your support. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to prize@equatorinitiative.org.
