The women of Corporate Accountability International, held a rally this morning, 17th of March 2016 to protest the move by the Lagos state government to privatize water.

The protest, which was tagged African Women Wash Net Meeting, took place at Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos and had women from different ethnic groups in the country addressing the crowd in their native tongue and also in English language.

The women opined that water should be affordable for all because it is a basic necessity. Lagos state, they said, always sets the precedence for other states and if the Lagos state government succeeds in privatizing water, other states would follow suit. They vowed not to sit still while this happens.

‘Our water, our right’ the banner used for the rally read and the women reiterated this as they called on the government not to deny them their right to clean affordable water.
